The software, firmware, and physical design are standardized for cost reduction and allow common building blocks for multiple optical functionalities and customers. Next generation optical networks are being designed for improved installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting capabilities to lower operation costs, and to enable simpler installation of optical networks.
